Lucille Hunter Elementary School

and

White Privilege

"The Irony of American history is the tendency of White Americans to presume racial innocence. Ignorance of how we are shaped racially is the first sign of privilege. In other words, it is a privilege to ignore the consequences of race in America."
-Tim Wise

This past Spring, the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) at Lucille Hunter Elementary School, an Academically and Intellectually gifted program Magnet School in southeast Raleigh, NC, that promotes and celebrates diversity, sparked outrage from two notable racists and privileged White men, Rush Limbaugh and Todd Starnes, because the school sent students home with an educational handout (on race) for their parents.

Hunter Elementary is named after Lucille Hunter, the child of slaves, and was erected in 1927. It wasn't until 1971 that Raleigh's county seat of Wake County desegregated the schools.

The school is a mere mile and a half from the Confederate Monument at the NC State Capitol that North Carolina's own governor Roy Cooper (D) said last August should be moved to a museum, sparking controversy, legal fights, and all sorts of obfuscation and lies in the defense of several Statues and Monuments adorning the public grounds of the Capitol. The Monument is a clear symbol of White Supremacy, the secession of the Confederacy, the losing side of the American Civil War, Black Codes, Lynching’s, Jim Crow, Voter disenfranchisement, and Slavery.

Three Important Points:

1) Donald Bryson president of @NCCivitas, North Carolina's Conservative Voice, stated in an article on February 6 of this year, that he agrees, "this nation needs a serious conversation over issues of race."

2) The Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts of 1964 and 1965 guaranteed Blacks their inalienable Rights, yet the 'conservative' North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) aka 'the party of Lincoln' gives no mention of these 'Rights Acts' in the Republican History section of NCGOP website.

3) Lucille Hunter Elementary PTA was having: A serious conversation on race in America.

Rush Limbaugh is a bigot with a long history of racist remarks.  Todd Starnes clearly supports liberty for those like himself (White Christian males), while espousing opposition and hatred for all who are not White men or Christians.  Both are bigots, and to the extent they support the State, they support Racism - the 'systematic oppression' of those not white or privileged.

The Lucille Hunter PTA included in their handout an 11-step guide with statistics of how Black people are treated differently than White people.

Racism is real as this short video details.
